Founded by the legendary Rai Bahadur M. S. Oberoi on October 6, 1950, HRANI has come a long way in serving the causes of hospitality industry in North Indian States. The mission, which was started with just 27 members, has today grown as an association with nearly 1500 strong members who consist of 800 hotels, 600 restaurants and 100 associates from North India. This Herculean effort is undoubtedly credited to Late Ram Prasad Ji, who served as President of HRANI for the longest period. Under his able guidance and farsightedness, the association has become a force to reckon with.

HRANI is a historical organization and takes pride in the fact that India’s former Prime Minister, Late Shri Lal Bhadur Shastri, was the Chairman of the organizing committee of its first ever convention held in Delhi.

HRANI’s constant endeavor is to promote the standards and quality of the services extended to the tourism sector of the country, for the integrated growth of the industry. In India, tourism is the second largest earner of foreign exchange and the single largest generator of employment. Currently, the industry provides accommodation to about 2.7 million foreign tourists and about 140 million domestic travelers.

The member states of HRANI include Rajasthan, which has created some of the highly recognized products like ‘Heritage Hotels’ in global tourism; the state of Himachal Pradesh whose economy is mainly dependent on tourism and Jammu and Kashmir where tourism has gained momentum recently after years of insurgency. On the other hand, there is Uttar Pradesh with its vast reserve of locales, religious sites and serene valleys of Himalayas, besides the renowned Taj Mahal, to attract all kind of tourists.

HRANI has come to be known as a model trade organization and its members include the well-known names in the hospitality industry, like Oberoi’s. ITC Welcome Group, Taj Group, Grand Hotels, Meridian, Hyatt, Jaypee Group, Radisson, Claridges, Crowne Plaza, Ambassador, McDonalds, Ruby Tuesday, Rodeo Group, Nirula’s, Kwality, Haldiram’s, Pizza Hut, etc. The medium and small level hotels, which are also members of the association, are given equal opportunity to safeguard their interests along with bigger names.
